Hockey Ireland Covid-19 Guidelines

The following changes have been made to the Hockey Ireland Covid-19 guidelines given the latest announcement on Covid-19 restrictions made by the Irish (ROI) Government. These changes are applicable from 26th April 2021.

Please see the following link for more information: gov.ie – Level 5 (www.gov.ie)

Updated Guidelines:

Underage (U18) non-contact outdoor training in pods of 15 (including a coach) may resume.
All clubs must ensure that a branch registered Covid-19 Officer (CVO) attends all training sessions and undertakes the duties of the CVO only. Please see CVO job description document:
It is advised that clubs should update their Covid-19 risk assessment of club procedures and facilities before returning to training/playing. All returning members should be reminded of the club’s Covid-19 protocols.
The ‘Return to Training’ guidelines continue to apply.

The Northern Ireland (NI) Executive have issued the following guidance for NI from the 23rd of April 2021.

Please see the following link for more information: http://www.sportni.net/pathway-out-of-restrictions-for-sport-update-16-april-2021/

The following relates to non-elite level outdoor sport:

Outdoor sport organised by a club, individual or individuals affiliated will be extended to include squad training.
Competitive outdoor sport can be organised by a club, individual or individuals affiliated, with numbers (including participants, officials, management and essential support personnel) not exceeding 100 and no spectators permitted.
The ‘Return to Training’ guidelines should continue to apply.

Munster Branch Competitions Season 2020-2021

Following a meeting of the Management Committee of the Munster Branch of Hockey Ireland (MBHI) on 3rd March, it was decided to approve the proposal of the Competitions Committee to abandon all leagues and cancel all cup competitions for the 2020/21 season. It was also agreed that all teams will compete in the same leagues next season (2021/22) as they were in for the 2020/21 season, subject to the number of team entries.
While it is disappointing to have made these decisions, it is felt that there is no alternative, especially following the Government announcement last week that Level 5 restrictions would remain in place to at least 5th April.
MBHI will continue to work with Hockey Ireland and other relevant authorities to ensure a safe return to our sport. Our focus now will be working on a full competition calendar for the 2021/22 season should restrictions allow, with the aim being to return to competition earlier in September than would be the norm.

Covid 19 Update

Hockey Ireland’s Covid-19 Group met today to discuss the recent announcements regarding Covid-19 restrictions made by the Irish (ROI) Government and the Northern Irish (NI) Executive.
The following changes have been made to Hockey Ireland Covid-19 guidelines:
(Please note: These restrictions do not apply to Irish Senior International squads under Sport Ireland’s elite exemption)
As per Level 3 guidelines, adults in ROI will be allowed to return to non-contact training with immediate effect. Training must be in pods of maximum 15 (including coaches/managers) and socially distanced at all time.
Competition/matches may not be played at any level.
For All Ireland Competitions:
Hockey Ireland’s principle of all clubs competing on a level basis in relation to Covid-19 restrictions remains in place.
No all-Ireland hockey competition (EYHL1, EYHL2 or Cups) will start until a 4-week lead-in period has passed that would start from the point in time that training be allowed on the entire island of Ireland.
Training for EYHL clubs will be allowed if permitted under the Government rules but this will be reviewed once the current period of lockdown for Northern Ireland has passed on December 11th.

Competitions – Level 3 Confirmation

Now that it is confirmed that the whole country is going to Level 3 from midnight tonight (06.10.20), I want to remind everyone that all competitions below Division 1 have been suspended until we revert to Level 2. At the very minimum matches scheduled for the next 3 weekends will be postponed. Branch Fixtures Secretaries will refix all these games. All teams below Division 1 can continue to train but it must be in pods of 15, which includes the coach/manager etc.

Division 1 teams can apply for postponements if they don’t wish to play their scheduled matches on health and safety grounds, however, postponement rules MUST be followed.
Please note that the Charity Cup and Examiner Cup are deemed to be Division 1 competitions. Matches that involve Div.2 teams competing in these competitions will go ahead as scheduled.

Competitions – Level 3 Preparation

In preparation should any area in Munster go to Level 3 restrictions, the following has been decided by the Competitions Committee and the Management Committee of the Munster Branch:

1. Any match that involves a team from an area that are in Level 3 restrictions will be postponed, with the exception of Division 1 games, until such time as we revert to Level 2.

2. Any postponed matches will be refixed by the relevant Branch Fixtures Secretary.

3. This will essentially mean all leagues below Div.1 will be suspended while we are in Level 3. Of course, matches that don’t involve teams from affected areas can go ahead as scheduled.

4. If teams in Division 1 don’t wish to play their games during Level 3 restrictions, we will accept postponement requests on health and safety grounds but Competition Rules around postponements MUST be followed i.e. postponement form submitted at least 7 days in advance (with the exception of the first weekend of Level 3 restrictions), another date must be agreed with the opposition etc. Please refer to Rule 7 of Competition Rules for more details.

All of the above is in line with current government protocols and guidance from Sport Ireland, taking into account exemptions granted by both bodies.
