Munster U18 Girls 2019

Schools and clubs are invited to nominate players to trial for the Munster U18 Girls squad 2019 by emailing each player’s name, position, school and/or club to munsteru18girls@gmail.com. The deadline for nominations is Friday 15th February. Only players born in 2002 or 2003 are eligible to trial.

In previous years, this trial process has been made more difficult for coaches and management due to the volume of players involved. To ensure each girl gets a fair trial and has the best opportunity to be seen we would strongly encourage you to please only send players whom you believe have the potential to represent Munster.

A form has been sent to schools and clubs which must be completed by each nominated player’s parent/guardian. This form must be brought to the first trial in order for the player to be allowed take part. Parents/guardians of nominated players can get this form emailed directly to them by contacting munsteru18girls@gmail.com.

Information about the first trial will be made available shortly.

If you have any queries please contact the above email address.

Development Information Evening

A further meeting to progress the Munster Development Plan will take place on Monday 4th February 2019 in the Firgrove Hotel Mitchelstown at 7:30pm.

Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is the beginning, staying together is progress and working together is success.” As Ford recognised, the coming together of people is the foundation stone of success. At Munster Hockey, we want to lay a new foundation stone, we want to bring some people together to build a new kind of success. Are you interested in being part of defining this beginning and shaping its growth?

We want to develop our organisation and the sport of hockey in Munster. To do this we are bringing together a group of people that want to contribute their thinking, their experience, their voice and their action to the development of Munster Hockey. The purpose will be to design and implement a 5 year plan that, in this first iteration, will focus on the playing and coaching areas. If you want to get involved, it will mean participating in the design process and taking ownership of elements of the implementation. We want this to be a community initiative with communal effort. If you can give a little bit of time to this consistently over a period, do let us know.

The first gathering, which will explain the methodology, the process and the commitment, will take place on Monday January 21st in the Firgrove Hotel Mitchelstown at 7.30 pm. If you want to be part of it, let us know by contacting John Dennis as follows:

This is not a selection process, this is a call to action. You don’t need to be “suitably qualified”, although a love of hockey and a desire to see our sport grow in our province will be a big help!

Coach Education Resource

The following is a link for a Coach Education website, which has useful resources for those coaching in youth sport: www.icoachkids.eu.

There is a range of resources available. While some may appear to involve a lot of work, the advantage of such courses is that they can be done at a time that suits the participant.

And obviously the better educated a coach is, the more likely they will enjoy their coaching and have success in keeping underage players happy in sport and maximizing their potential.
