C of I Off the Mark after Cookstown Win

Church of Ireland men got off the mark on Sunday with a hard fought 2-1 win away to Cookstown. Goals from Cian Dorgan and Leandro Dos Santos Carvalho gave them their first points of the season 24 hours after they shipped double digits to league leaders Banbridge.

In the women’s top division Catholic Institute also got their first points of the new campaign with a bonus point draw with Pegasus. They had gone down 3-0 to Queens University on Saturday. Defending champions Loreto have an early lead on the table with three wins from three.
The Munster leagues also kicked off at the weekend with plenty of action across the province. In the men’s competition Bandon were surprisingly held to a 3-3 draw by Harlequins B.  C of I B had a comfortable win over Bandon B, while Catholic Institute had a 2-1 away win over Midleton.
On the women’s side defending champions Harlequins had a 2-0 over Waterford. Joy Sampson continued her goalscoring prowess from last season with a brace.  UCC made a successful start to their season with an emphatic 9-1 win over a new look C of I side.  Crescent won the Limerick derby with a 2-0 win over Catholic Institute B while Ashton and Bandon played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
