MUNSTER’S TRANSITION TO GAMEDAY

How the Munster Branch is Embracing Digital Change for Clubs & Players.

Change is on the horizon for Munster Hockey, and it’s all about making life easier for our clubs, players, and administrators. As many of you will have noticed, Hockey Ireland’s membership platform, Gameday, is now widely used for EY1 and Irish Hockey competitions, with Ulster and Leinster also embracing the move for most of their provincial matches.

After valuable feedback from our members and through discussions at the AGM, the Munster Branch Hockey Ireland (MBHI) has made the decision to transition all our competition administration online. This includes match cards, player registrations, transfers, results, and fixture time settings – all to be rolled out in stages over the 2025/26 season.

Our journey began in September with online transfers, and from the 2026 season onwards, player registration will also be managed through Gameday. Please note: a match card cannot be created until a member has paid their Gameday (Hockey Ireland) fee. Some clubs are already ahead of the curve, using Gameday for their own club memberships.

To make the most of these new tools, MBHI has also moved our website onto the Gameday platform. This means once clubs enter their results on Gameday, they’ll appear automatically on our website.

We started by asking clubs to get comfortable with populating their match cards online and entering fixture times for all their games. After players have registered with Hockey Ireland, and once the club admin has accepted their registration on the dashboard under ‘Members’ and ‘Pending Registrations,’ those players can be added directly to match cards.

With the launch of our new website, it became essential for all clubs to submit results through Gameday, as the old Sportlomo texting service is no longer available. We understand this is a significant change, especially for clubs who haven’t previously used Gameday unless involved in national competitions. However, any member who has paid their Hockey Ireland membership should already be present on the system.

To make this transition as smooth as possible, we’re running both manual and online match card systems for a couple of months. This will give everyone time to adapt before we go fully online from 1 January 2026. We’ve also provided a range of support materials, including videos and PDFs, since September.

If your club is finding any aspect of the new system difficult, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at secretary@munsterhockey.ie.

We’re here to help every step of the way as we usher in this new era for Munster hockey!
